Tiia Hertto Blog Post

1. Morgan and Alex were good at budgeting until the kids came to live with them and Morgan felt the need to impress them and make them happy, so they bought things that were unnecessary for them at the moment. But Alex would walk to work just to save a few cents because every penny counted, and they had one bus card between the two of them.
8. Alex becomes so emotional when she receives things for their apartment from The Free Store because she couldn't believe how generous these people were. She wouldn't be able to afford these things for a very long time because she has a lot of other necessities for their budget. She was so happy that she finally has a place other than the floor to eat on in her home.

(3) I just don't think that race had anything to do with with getting hired, as you see in the video there were minorities getting hired and they were probably getting pay the same wage, when it came down to finding a apartment I think that race play a role, because the landowner give them the choice to pay half of the rent and pay the rest later. The fact that they dint had kids play a big role they dint need to worry about feeding another mouth.
 (7) "working poor" are the people who work for minimal wage and are not making enough money to survived, and live in horrible conditions.

LASA'AN

1. In the short portion of "Living for 30 Days on Minimum Wage" I seen Morgan and Alex budgeting money very well. They were budgeting well when they were living in their apartment alone. But when Morgan's brothers children come to visit Morgan doesn't manage their money to well. He does unneded spending buy purchasing everyone their own pop. Morgan could have purchased a less amount of soda pops that can easily been spilt. He also purchased unnecessary items from the store trying to prepare for the family outing. Alex on the other hand was following the budget rules and regulations.
4. To be honest I would have ran away from the land lord when he began telling me about homeless people living in the apartment I had intend on renting. Especially when he stated the building was kind of like a crack house. Then he later explain the neighborhood saying that there is a high crime rate but later says don't worry because the hospital is near by. Personal , I know what its like to live to live in an environment that isn't that safe so I know if I had a choice I would have walked away from the land lord.

Question # 7- Define who the "working poor" are

The working poor are working people whose incomes fall below a given property line. The working poor are defined as people who spend 27 weeks or more in a year "in the labor force" either working or looking for work but whose incomes fall below the poverty line.

Question # 11 -Observe how easy it was for Morgan and Alex to get into an argument over finances. What is the underlying feeling that you think is at the cause of the conflict ?

8.)  Alex became so emotional when she went to The Free Store because she was feeling very grateful for the simple things she was missing from her new life on minimum wage. From the start of their month living on minimum wage, Alex and Morgan were eating on the floor, did not have chairs, did not have sheets, and did not have a couch. These small items were things that Alex and Morgan took advantage of in their previous, more privileged life. Alex missed eating at an actual table and having simple luxuries such as a couch and chairs. They missed coming home and feeling comfortable and actually feeling at home.  When alex and Morgan went to The Free Store and were given furniture, Alex became very emotional because the small gesture the people contributing to The Free Store gave to Alex and Morgan would make a huge impact on the rest of their month and that was very special to Alex.

11.)  Morgan and Alex got into fights so easily because they were very stressed and tired from their living situation and their jobs.  They were saying how hard it was even for them, a couple that has been together for a long time and love each other very much, to get along with each other and to make important decisions.  Alex and Morgan had so much stress and anxiety about bills and work that were making them heavy inside.  When a discussion about money come up, which happened quite often because they were living on minimum wage, one of them or both of them would snap.  To add to this stress, their apartment was not at all comforting and did not even seem like a home for them, so when they came home, it was not a healthy environment for them.  They were also working full time jobs, maybe even multiple, that were physical labor and were exhausted.  Any couple or family living together that works for minimum wage could have all of the same struggles as Alex and Morgan, if not more.

4)  He was very honest and he had good prices.  If i had enough money i would have walked away, but they barely had enough to pay the first months rent.  Also the land owner let them move in without paying the security deposit, which they would not have been able to afford right away.  Being that that was the only apartment they could get i think i would have stayed.

8)  She was amazed that people are kind enough to simply give away their stuff for free.  It is an extreme gesture of generosity done by the store.  It might also be upsetting to her that there are people who cant even afford basic necessities like cloths sheets and furniture.
